Beyond Words is an interactive installation created by Arch. Dr. Mirna Zordan with Min Liu and Khaliun Ganbat from the Future Spaces Vision Lab, SUSTech School of Design. Presented at UABB 2026 in Shenzhen, the work reinterprets the telephone booth as a small-scale perceptual laboratory for exploring non-verbal, affect-based communication in contemporary cities. The project has also been reported by ArchDaily of UABB 2026.

The installation invites two participants into paired telephone booths equipped with heart-rate sensors. Their real-time cardiac activity is translated into a dynamic audiovisual environment, revealing how the “rhythms of the self” and the “rhythms of the other” merge, interfere, and co-generate a shared field of post-linguistic emotional resonance.

Thanks to the curation team for the invitation, Min Liu for leading the project, Khaliun Ganbat for assisting along, and Zixian Lei for supporting during the set up.
