Hackathon | BODIES DON'T LIE

Over three days in Shenzhen, BODIES DON'T LIE invited participants to ask a more playful question: what if the body itself could become an input, a medium, and a co-author of interactive experiences? The hackathon explored physiological signals, transforming them through rapid prototyping into light, sound, visuals, haptics, and embodied interaction.

The hackathon brought together Future Spaces Vision Lab and the Institute for Future Technologies at De Vinci Higher Education, creating a shared space across interaction design, creative technology, physiological computing, and hands-on making. Mirna Zordan and Xiao Xiao joined the event as organizors, supporting teams as they moved rapidly from bodily signals to concepts, experiments, and working prototypes.

The final outcomes took three very different directions: Symbiotic Juggling explored physiological signals as part of a live performance, Heartbeat Hug turned heartbeat and breathing into an embodied experience of intimacy and connection, while BIOVOX brought EEG and heart-rate data into a social singing experience through responsive sound, light, and visuals. Together, the projects showed just how many forms biometric interaction can take when data becomes something to see, hear, feel, and share.
